CAR-T Cell Therapy (Chimeric Antigen Receptor T-Cell)
CAR-T Cell Therapy is a living drug gene therapy where patient T-cells are harvested, genetically modified in a specialized laboratory to express synthetic CD19 chimeric antigen receptors (NexCAR19 / Kymriah), and re-infused to eradicate refractory blood cancers.
Clinical Overview & Disease Information
CAR-T Cell Therapy is a living drug gene therapy where patient T-cells are harvested, genetically modified in a specialized laboratory to express synthetic CD19 chimeric antigen receptors (NexCAR19 / Kymriah), and re-infused to eradicate refractory blood cancers.
Signs & Symptoms
- • Low blood counts prior to lymphodepletion
- • Fatigue and night sweats
- • Cytokine Release Syndrome (CRS): High fever, tachycardia, hypotension
- • Immune effector Cell-Associated Neurotoxicity Syndrome (ICANS): Confusion, speech difficulty
- • Transient B-cell aplasia
- • Grade 3/4 Cytokine Release Syndrome (High fever, severe hypoxia, shock)
- • Severe ICANS seizures or obtundation
Causes & Risk Factors
Primary Causes & Etiology
- Relapsed / Refractory B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (B-ALL)
- Relapsed Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma (DLBCL)
- Relapsed Multiple Myeloma (BCMA target)
Who is at Higher Risk?
- Patients failing 2 or more prior lines of chemotherapy or stem cell transplant
Diagnostic Evaluation & Testing
| Diagnostic Test | Clinical Purpose / What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Flow Cytometry CD19 / CD20 Expression & Bone Marrow Aspiration | Confirms presence of target CD19 surface antigens on malignant lymphoblasts |
| Serum Ferritin, CRP & IL-6 Inflammatory Biomarkers | Monitors early onset of Cytokine Release Syndrome (CRS) |
Comprehensive Treatment Options
Autologous Engineered CAR-T Cell Re-Infusion
Intravenous infusion of genetically modified CD19-targeting CAR T-cells following 3-day conditioning lymphodepletion.
Bridging Chemotherapy & Lymphodepleting Conditioning (Fludarabine + Cyclophosphamide)
Pre-infusion chemotherapy protocol to clear host T-cells, creating optimal microenvironment for CAR-T expansion.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is CAR-T cell therapy a single one-time treatment?
Yes! Unlike multi-cycle chemotherapy, CAR-T is administered as a single one-time intravenous infusion of living immune cells.
What is NexCAR19?
NexCAR19 is India's first indigenously developed humanized CD19 CAR-T cell therapy offering world-class efficacy at 1/10th the global cost.
