Transcatheter Amplatzer Occluder & Open Heart Patch Correction
Surgical and interventional transcatheter closure/repair of congenital cardiac anomalies including Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD), Atrial Septal Defect (ASD), Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA), and Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF).
Clinical Overview & Disease Information
Surgical and interventional transcatheter closure/repair of congenital cardiac anomalies including Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD), Atrial Septal Defect (ASD), Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA), and Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF).
Signs & Symptoms
- • Infant poor feeding, sweating while nursing, and failure to gain weight
- • Mild tachypnea (rapid breathing) and persistent respiratory infections
- • Cyanosis (bluish skin tint of lips and tongue during crying)

Causes & Risk Factors
Primary Causes & Etiology
- Incomplete embryological septation of fetal heart chambers (VSD / ASD)
- Maternal rubella infection or uncontrolled maternal diabetes
- Genetic chromosomal syndromes (Down syndrome Trisomy 21)
Who is at Higher Risk?
- Infants and children with diagnosed congenital heart lesions seeking transcatheter or open surgical repair
Diagnostic Evaluation & Testing
| Diagnostic Test | Clinical Purpose / What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Pediatric Echocardiogram with Color Doppler & 3D Reconstruction | Quantifies shunt direction (Left-to-Right / Right-to-Left), Qp:Qs ratio, and valve function |
| Diagnostic Pediatric Cardiac Catheterization & Angiography | Measures pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) and anatomy prior to closure |
Comprehensive Treatment Options
Percutaneous Transcatheter Amplatzer Septal Occluder Device Closure
Femoral vein catheterization placing self-expanding nitinol double-disc Amplatzer device across ASD/VSD under TEE guidance.
Open Heart Dacron Patch VSD Closure & Complete Tetralogy of Fallot Repair
Cardiopulmonary bypass VSD patch closure and RVOT relief.
